Pasta Zanmai

 This cafe serves up a fusion of Japanese and Western dishes.
From traditional Maki to Japanese inspired pastas and pizzas.

 <Fried Squid Tentacles>

Fried squid has always been a delectable choice of side dish with its chewiness.This one here has a crispy light batter and salted to perfection.

 <Scallop Mushroom Pasta>

Although it looks very plain, the taste of it is surprisingly flavoursome according to my friend. All I can say it looks perfect for small eaters or weight watchers.

 <Prawn Tempura Pasta with Sesame Sauce>

Apologies for the bad photo. I had a bite of this pasta and it tasted really good. The flavours are well balanced and the tempura fresh.

 <Ebi Tempura Salmon Tortilla Roll>

A twist! Maki without sushi rice, hows that? One thing for sure, the texture is very different and it is not as heavy as using rice. Taste wise, it was alright I guess.

<Teriyaki Chicken to Onsen Tamago no Pizza>

Another twist on the menu! Wafer thin pizza topped with Japanese goodness. The taste was good. But it could have been better if the egg was done to perfection. It didn't flow out of the yolk like it should have, otherwise the experience would have been better.

Pastis Cafe & Dining

A small cozy cafe tucked in a corner of Gardens Mall at Mid Valley K.L. It serves up a variety of western dishes that seems to be inspired by Italian cooking.

<Tomato and Basil Pasta>

Superb! This tomato based pasta is by far the best tasting one I have had. The consistency of the sauce is good, the balance between the sweetness and the tartness is perfect. And if our taste buds were right, the sauce is made from scratch using fresh tomatoes. Awesome!

<Tomato and Basil Pasta with Meatballs>

Loaded with 3 large tasty meatballs, this should satisfy any carnivores out there. Thumbs up!

<Tiramisu>

Okay, seriously... this is not Tiramisu at all. It tastes like dried mascarpone cheese with no hint of cheese at all. Add that to weak coffee aroma. Totally wrong! Do not order this.

Pancake House

 <Southern Maple Chicken with Golden Crisp Waffle>

I would describe this dish as pleasantly delicious. Wasn't the best waffle I've had, it wasn't the best chicken I've had, but it was good enough to satisfy my stomach. The waffle was light and crispy. The chicken though was kind of dry, the sauce more than made up for it.

<Dreamy Chocolate Lava Mini Pancakes>

These pancakes were alright. Not as heavy as I expected but also not as tasty as I had hope it to be. The taste of chocolate was missing the intense indulgence that you usually get from having a chocolate related dessert.

Kyung Joo Korean Restaurant

 <Apple Juice>

You might ask what is there to write about a cup of apple juice. To simply put it, this is the BEST cup of apple juice I've ever had in Singapore and Malaysia. If you look at it closely, the ice is only at the top. That means the entire cup is full of juice instead of ice. Next, the apples used are really fresh. And not a hint of water was mixed into the juice. Thumbs up!

 <Seafood Pancake>

No superlatives required for this. Seriously delicious and the best Korean seafood pancake my friend and I had. Check out the amount of seafood loaded in it and it is easy to see why. The sauce that came with it was tangy, slightly sweet and it elevated the dish to the next level.

 <Ginseng Chicken Soup>

Disappointing. The soup was bland and the chicken was overcooked. We ended up only finishing 1/3 of the bowl.

 <Grilled Marinated Pork>

I asked the staff there to help us grill it and boy... how I wish I didn't. He overcooked the meat... T_T. Otherwise, the marinade on the pork was actually decent.

<Grilled Marinated US Beef Rib>

Fared slightly better than the pork at the hands of the staff. The beef was tasty and still tender. Not the best we've had. But like they sometimes say, good company is better than the food itself.

Pao Xiang Bah Kut Teh

Overpriced, small portion and stingy with the soup is how I would sum up this Bah Kut Teh outlet. For me, the taste is alright and passable. But factors mentioned above including how the staff kept pushing us to order more made the experience worst.

Plan b.

Plan  b., a cool cafe with a good atmosphere, perfect for a gathering of friends or chill out after a long day of work. But I must say I hated the spotlights though, it made taking of photos a real challenge for an amateur like me. Just check out those shadows... LOL ^^

 <Watermelon Lychee Blend>

Gosh! This has to be the ultimate refresher of all drinks. Mixed with a touch of fresh mint, the combination of watermelon and lychee is simply too hard to resist.

 <The Loaded Club Sandwich>

Loaded with grilled chicken, crispy turkey bacon, roasted capsicum, avocado with egg mayo all within the safe haven of  home-made toasted white bread served with home-made chips and salad. The contrasting flavours and texture of this sandwich made it a very delectable option. Loved it!

 <Lemon Meringue Tart>

Everything about this dessert was just nice. It wasn't fabulous, but definitely a good way to finish off a hearty meal. What I like best was the lemon curd. It had just the right texture with a good balance of sweetness and sourness.

 <Spicy Lamb Chorizo & Gruyere Cheese Muffin>

Funky is how I would call this muffin. This had to be the most unique muffin my friend and I have come across and we just had to order it. To sum it up, this muffin is not for the faint hearted. The cheese packs a punch. It is pungent and has a bitter taste to it. The lamb chorizo is very lamb-ish. To top it off, the muffin is very very dense. If you are adventurous enough, try it!
